Tony is an outstanding family lawyer and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Profile of Tony Roe

In brief

I am the principal divorce & family law solicitor of the practice.

In public

I am a regular contributor to local and national media, and have written for The Times and Financial Times on a number of occasions. In the independently researched Legal 500, 2006 edition, I was described as "conscientious and keen to obtain the best outcome for his clients without losing sight of the pragmatic solution".

The Chambers 2008 Directory, again independently researched, said that my clients find me "easy to deal with". In the 2009 edition, Chambers stated, "He won’t give an inch if it doesn’t benefit his client." I have also been named in the Legal Business Report, "Legal Experts 2008". I am also named in, amongst other publications, Legal 500, 2010 edition, and Legal Experts 2010.

In work

My straightforward approach is reflected in the efforts made to ensure clients understand the complete picture in terms of the procedure and the cost, and know what to expect.

With clients ranging from those in the UK to overseas, I regularly advise on complex financial disputes, international children matters, cross-jurisdictional divorce and collaborative law ancillary relief.

In practice

I try to make a contribution to my profession and family law specifically.

As well as being actively involved nationally in Resolution, and locally in Thames Valley Family Lawyers, for both of whom I have lectured, I have addressed solicitor delegates at the joint Law Society and Association of Women Solicitors’ Returners Course.

I have been appointed to the Law Commission’s Advisory Group on Marital Property Agreements looking into the legal status of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, the only solicitor in private practice, based outside London.

My firm presents the annual Tony Roe Solicitors Family Law Prize to a final year family law student at the University of Reading and I also give talks to students on this area of practice.

Industry associations

Memberships include Resolution (formerly the Solicitors' Family Law Association), where I sat on the National Committee for three years and chaired its Children Committee. Resolution believes in using an approach which is sensitive, constructive, cost-effective and most likely to result in an agreement. We follow the Resolution Code of Practice which is sent to all clients.

In 2010 I helped launched a national network of niche family law firms. The five firms, under the banner, D5 – Excellence in Family Law, have 35 specialist lawyers up and down the country and will share knowledge, expertise and training resources. Our firms’ specialist family law teams share similar aims and objectives and want to promote excellence in family law amongst our staff and for our clients. The D5 network ensures that high quality family law expertise is available throughout the country. The firms are: Benussi & Co, (Birmingham), Diane Genders Ltd, (Lincoln/Nottingham), Family Law Associates LLP, (London), Jones Myers LLP (Leeds), and ours, Tony Roe Solicitors

In the past

Graduating from the University of Keele and qualifying in 1990, I spent several years at a progressive commercial practice in Leeds before joining a specialist private client firm in London. I joined Boyes Turner as a Partner in 1998 and headed its Family Law Group for almost 10 years.

In my spare time

I was born in Yorkshire and love the great outdoors. I spend much of my spare time on outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling.
